Viva St. Ezekiel Moreno

By: Sr. Fille Castaño, AR.

2007-2008, a school year filled with anticipations of God’s blessings as we open this another school year. Enthusiastic students especially freshmen crowded the tailoring shop for their school uniform. Isn’t that a glimpse of smile from St. Ezekiel’s face as he watches these innocent souls eager to learn and be a part of Ezekelians family?

June 4, 2007 at 6:00 in the morning, as we were preparing for Church, we noticed smiling faces of students ready for school. Beaming with joy and wearing new school uniforms, bags, shoes, umbrellas, all set to welcome the new school year. Then I heard a sweet tiny voice saying “Good Morning Sister” And mimicking the voice, I responded “ Good Morning!” Welcome back to St. Ezekiel Moreno High School. Giggling, they happily proceeded to the classrooms to check their names posted on the doors.

During the first day of classes, we found only 370 students officially enrolled but after a week or two, enrollment soars up to a total of 427, the figure which we have submitted later to the Dep Ed.

As we gathered in the Church for the celebration of the Holy Spirit’s Mass, the parish priest, Rev. Father Divino Sedigo praise and thank  God for the bountiful graces we received. Father Divine exhorted that we are all precious gifts coming from the Father so in His presence we raise our hearts and minds in adoration to Him for His immense love for us. He further said that parents selected the right school for their children, St. Ezekiel Moreno High School, the only Catholic school in the northern part of Palawan. After the mass, we expressed our gratefulness to our humble parish priest.

The first three months of the school year was marked with different activities, such as the ARSC elections, Nutrition month and above all the celebration of St. Ezekiel’s Feastday, August 19. But since it was Sunday, the school’s feast day celebration was moved to Monday, August 20. The celebrations included the Holy Mass, followed with floral offerings to the statue of St. Ezekiel and a colorful parade around the barangay. People flocked to every corner of the streets just to have a glimpse of the glamorous attire of the school band and the muses and their escorts. Filipiniana motif was the attire of the students.

VIVA ST. EZEKIEL! We love and honor you, our patron and our guide!
