Consolatrix Family Enthralls Toledanos

It was indeed a night of exhilaration and pride as the CCTC Sisters, faculty and staff showcased their talents during the Dep Ed Night last June 9 at the Barba Sports Complex as part of the nightly celebration for the Toledo City Fiesta every June 12.

The 20-minute presentation of famous cultural dances and Filipino traditions was surely a fitting opening number for the rest of the dances presented that night by teachers from both private and public schools were all modern dances.

The CCTC dancers’ elegant and colorful costumes especially their captivating smiles and head-turning formation and movements were truly spectacular and held the audience spellbound to the very end of their performance. Again, it was a night to remember similar to last year for we also made the same impact to the audience with our totally unique presentation compared to the rest.

CC Alumni capture Toledo

Two stunning alumni of CCTC won the first two highest awards during the Miss Toledo City Beauty Pageant held at Barba Sports Complex last June 10.

Sweeney Villahermosa was crowned Miss Toledo while Timmy Rose Mahidlawon received the title as Miss Independence ’07. Both were batchmates and graduated from high school two years ago. Sweeney also received two special awards, as Ms. Talent and as Ms. Friendship reverently placed at the beautifully decorated altar in each classroom. The said homage marked the continuity of the Bible enthronement.

The overall ceremony was splendid, knowing that solemnity prevailed during the entire activity.

PAASCU visits CCTC

With the demanding process for the PAASCU Accreditation, Consoaltrix College was definitely ready to face the consultative visit of the high ranking evaluator from the PAASCU, Miss Priscilla Faraon, last July 25, 2007 in preparation of the school’s application for Level 2 accreditation.

Intensive preparations were done weeks before the scheduled visitation. Sisters, teachers, and staff and the entire student body worked hand in hand for the success of the said visit.

Documentation of the various school activities, narrative reports, syllabi and many more pertinent papers were compiled and displayed at the PAASCU office in the school.

The entire school from top to bottom as well as the grounds underwent a massive facelift and beautification under the supervision of the seemingly indefatigable Sr. Ma. Melodina Ramirez, AR the new superior directress, whom we usually tag as “superwoman” for she seems to be almost everywhere supervising every maintenance worker for a job to be specifically done.

Of course, everyone’s effort paid off since Miss Faraon was truly impressed although there are a number of recommendations yet to be done for the final visit next year.

Consequently, on the day of the PAASCU visit, was also the birthday of our parish priest, Fr. Raul Gallego. As a Consolatrician tradition we always honor him with a mass, program, and simple gifts. Although there was this significant visit, it didn’t upset the schedule of celebrating our parish priest’s birthday. As a result the entire morning was spent for this activity.

The oath-taking of the newly-elected CCPTA classroom and over-all officers was likewise done after the mass with Rev. Fr. Gallego as the inducting officer. That day which was supposed to be “academic” unexpectedly turned out to be festive to the delight of everyone.

However, in the afternoon the mood changed drastically as everyone prepared for the usually dreaded walk-in class observation by the PAASCU accreditor but nevertheless a welcome assessment of how prepared we were.

CCTC Boy Scouts hurdle Ave Maria Cross Award

With great jubilation and pride, twelve boy scouts from Consolatrix College were awarded the very prestigious Ave Maria Cross Award last July 16, 2007 at 8:00 AM at the school’s covered court.

The Ave Maria Cross Award is a national award for Catholic boy scouts who passed the programs designed by the Catholic Committee on Scouting. These awardees, who were the only recipients in the entire Region 7, were duly recommended by the Board of Review, Catholic Committee on Scouting of the Archdiocese of Cebu based on the certifications from their parish priest. The screening was based on the following requirements namely: liturgy and worship, parish involvement and service in which they have to earn 300 merit points.

These scouts were under the supervision and guidance of the school’s scouts, Mr. Jeffrey Lacson.

The honored guest during this significant occasion were Scouter Hernando Estregan, BSP Chairman Cebu Council,Scouter Romero Buenaventura, Council Scout Executive, Hon. Amverfino Perales, Cebu Council Area IV Chairman and Sr. Ma. Melodina Ramirez, AR superior/directress.

One of the most numerable speeches given by the guests of honor was by Sr. Ma. Melodina Ramirez, AR when she said, “ The Consolatrix College community hopes for more honors from its boy scouts. Surely, this won’t be the last batch of Ave Maria Cross awardees.

College Studes Undergo Orientation

With the aim to develop awareness on the school policies, students from the college department attended a one-day orientation on this topic held last July 2, 2007 at the College Social Hall.

Rev. Sr. Ma. Melodina Ramirez, A.R. spearheaded the said activity with the assistance of a number of college instructors and professors namely: Ms. Le Albertly Uy, Program Head, Department of Computer Studies, Mrs. Belina Dinsay, BEED Adviser, Miss Maryleh Cañas, Head of the Guidance Services, and Mr. Paul Whelmer Alforque. Two college graduating students, Juanito Rubin Jr. and Ruseller Layan, were also made to speak before the assembly.

Right after the orientation was the election of officers for each college department. Since  that rigid and massive discussion of the school philosophy, mission-vision and policies, there has been a noticeable change in their attitudes. College students now are seemingly conscious of their responsibilities, actions and speech. Moreover, they have become time conscious and punctual in attending their classes. Furthermore, they have been more concerned about their studies.

Parents, Alumni Manifest Cooperation

With the constant encouragement and invitation of the school, our parents and the alumni are now more cooperative and solicitous about the concerns of the school.

On August 31, during the culminating activity of the Buwan ng Wika,  parents express their desire to join the parade also wearing a Filipiniana which will be the costume of the day for everybody from the sisters, faculty and staff as well as the student body. They are also going to present one folk dance number during the program after the parade.

On the other hand, the Alumni Batch ’83 will spearhead a “Bingo for a Cause” on September 8 at 3:00 P.M. at the school’s covered court. This aims to raise funds for the Alumni Homecoming of February, 2008 of which they are the sponsors. 40% of the total funds that will be raised will go to the school for the project of their choice.

These gestures from the parents and the alumni have been a welcome development for the entire school community.
